Life Member - John Impson

Charter Member since 1993
  • John W. Impson, Ph.D., Retired National Program Leader, HELPS, USDA/CSREES, former AAPSE ex-officio member advisor.
  • John Impson was AAPSE's first USDA ex-officio member having served as national program leader during AAPSE's establishment in the early 1990s. John worked for both the Louisiana SLA and LSU (J W IMPSON PhD Ext Asst Pestic Safety - 76-77) in his early days. He moved on to USDA and was replaced by Mary Grodner at LSU. John continued with USDA until the late 1990s.
  • After John retired from USDA in Washington he and his wife moved to Waveland, a small town on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. John grew up in the Denham Springs area, outside of Baton Rouge, LA. In high school, he played baseball and football but never track. At LSU, a back injury kept him from playing sports. He had always been know for his speed on the ballfield and he decided to try running as a way to compete in the Senior Olympics. He chose the 100 and 200 meter sprints as his event - no long distances - just the quick burst of speed!
